Past the meter leaks occur when:

1. a water supply pipe has split, cracked or torn apart. This can be the pipe running from the meter to your house, under your house or inside your walls. The vast majority of these leaks occur from late February to early April

2. a facet is left open or is defective

3. a toilet is running

4. an appliance (dishwasher, washing machine or hot water tank) is leaking

5. in homes with fire sprinklers, a nozzle is leaking

6. there is a leak in an autofill pool or hot tub
